Federal Forms and Publications are available for current and past years from the Internal Revenue Service site. You may also request forms by calling 1-800-TAX FORMS.
Illinois Forms can be downloaded at the Illinois Department of Revenue site. If you prefer to call, phone 1-800-732-8866.
Forms from Other States are online at the Federation of Tax Administrators site.
Online Filing
IRS e-file provides online filing information and links for individuals, businesses, nonprofits, and tax professionals. - The IRS will open online filing for the 2021 tax season on January 24, 2022.
IL-1040 online filing allows all Illinois individual taxpayers to file their state form online for free.
Free File Alliance is a non-profit organization that allows low-income taxpayers to file their taxes using commercial tax software for free. Income thresholds are strictly enforced, so please check requirements before using this option. For Tax Year 2021 (returns usually prepared in 2022), the income limit is $73,000.
Approved Third-Party Software by the State of Illinois - These commercial products have registered with the State of Illinois as legitimate for-profit tax preparation services, for those who'd like a bit of automated assistance while preparing their taxes online.

Ladder Up – Tax Assistance Program (TAP) - (312) 588-6900 - Waubonsee Community College (18 S River St, Room 344 Aurora, IL 60506) • Appointments Required! • Saturdays 9AM-12PM, from January 29-April 9 • Strict income requirements o Up to $58,000 for joint returns o Up to $32,000 for individuals • All personal returns, but only certain kinds of self-employment income (ask when scheduling) • No 1099-A or 1099-C forms (unless for discharge of a credit card) • Must live and work in Illinois • Both spouses must be present to sign (or notarized Power of Attorney) for joint returns
